Peace
Woke this morning to the ringing of yak bells. Next to our teahouse trains of Yaks were heading up the trail carrying loads of gear. Ah, another nine wonderful hours of sleep.
After breakfast we hiked up the hill to the Tengboche monastery. Our climbing team received a blessing from the Rinpoche (a reincarnate lama - Buddhist teacher). He presented each of us with a Kata (white scarf) and blessed Puja string. As we learned on our past Everest climb, tie the Puja string around your neck and never break the knot. This provides each of us protection from harm.
In our discussion with the Rinpoche, we asked, “What is the best philosophy to live by?” His response, “Concentrate on peace within yourself, peace within your family and promote peace around the world.”
Off to Pheriche tomorrrow...
