Everest Base Camp Conclusion

7,000 Girls in Nepal

This concludes our Everest base camp trek, we hope you enjoyed the journey.

Years ago, I wanted to give back to Nepal and have been supporting the American Himalayan Foundation RHEST program ever since. One of the reasons we decided to participate on this trek was an opportunity to meet the leadership of this program. So while in Kathmandu, I had the honor of meeting Dr. Aruna Uprety, the program founder, and Bruce Moore of AHF.

The best way to describe the program is through their program overview (access link below). To summarize, illiteracy is wide spread in rural Nepal. Too often young girls are at great risk and sold by their desperately poor families to sex traffickers who take the girls to brothels in another country. This program keeps 7,000 girls in school who would otherwise not have the opportunity, and they have not lost one girl to trafficking. The program supports girls from 7-8 years old through their high school years.

Recently, they asked some of the girls how will your life be different from your mother's? One girls response: "I can sign my name versus using my thumbprint as my signature."

If you are interested in supporting this program in any way, following you will find more information and link for access:

Thank you for following our adventure.

Namaste!
